“Great Parklands Bake Off”

6th March 2019

Mable attends Parklands school on Monday 4th March to judge pupils charity bake off, in aid of raising money for their partner school Katiyo Primary School in Zimbabwe.

On Monday 4th March, three of our Mable team members with no prior experience of confectionery or artistic analysis, headed to Parklands Primary School in Leeds to proudly sponsor and judge their latest fundraiser. This year’s competition was a fun charity Bake Off with the theme of stories, to accompany world book day on 7th March. Pupils from Reception, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two brought in a selection of imaginative bakes to enter into the bake off to win £25, a limited edition Bake Off wooden spoon and the title and added glory of Star Baker.

As well as the Parklands Bake Off being an exciting event for the whole school to be involved in, the charity event was also held as part of an annual fundraiser for Katiyo Primary School in Zimbabwe. Parklands have regularly worked with the School since 2002, built pupil relationships through letter writing, visited the school and previously raised around £20,000.

The event was held in the School hall at Parklands where the creative bakes were set out for the judges to decide which cakes from Reception, Key Stage one and Key stage two should win the prizes. After a grueling twenty minutes of assessing each masterpiece, the decision had been made. Here is a list of our winners.

The Winners.

From Reception, the winner is the Three Little Pigs! Very artistic, complete with a house, pathway and collaborative feature including Little Red Riding Hood. Great Work!

From Key Stage One, the winner is Oi Frog! Chocolate log rolled to perfection and a very cute frog indeed. Excellent likeness!

From Key Stage Two, the winner is The Wizard of OZ! We loved the intricate yellow brick road and Dorothy shoes. Amazing!

The winners were announced and given their prizes in a whole school assembly which included a musical performance by the very talented Education Consultant and Opera Singer, Rachel Orr. Towards the end of the day, parents attended the bake sale to admire their cake crafting and donate money towards helping develop Katiyo Primary School. We had an amazing day, raised lots of money and potentially talent spotted the contestants for this year’s real Great British Bake Off!
