Stress Management

Whether it’s exams, a big presentation or the ongoing pressures of school or work life, stress is something we all face. For some young people, extra support is needed in how to cope when they’re feeling overwhelmed by stress. On our stress management pathway, pupils will be given space to explore the root of their stress, as well as strategies and techniques to cope with stressful situations. Our counsellor will help them to build their resilience so they’re more able to cope with challenges and pressure.

Length of treatment
6 sessions delivered weekly.

Prerequisites
None required

Referral Criteria

  • Easily overwhelmed by tasks (eg: school work).
  • Irritable or struggling to regulate emotions.
  • Catastrophises things, worrying about the worst case scenario.
  • Changes in sleep pattern or appetite.
  • Physical symptoms such as headache or stomach ache.

What we will work on

  • Explore the root of the anxiety in order to challenge negative thoughts and associations.
  • Develop a range of strategies to recognise triggers of anxiety and enable them to cope with their experiences.
  • Build self-esteem and resilience in order to cope long-term with anxious situations.

What we want to accomplish

  • Lower anxiety levels (as measured on RCAD).
  • Reduction in symptoms.
  • More able to cope with anxious situations.
  • Improved self-esteem and resilience.
  • Improved attendance and engagement with learning.
