Our whole-school approach

We have a variety of packages and tiered services designed to transform mental health and wellbeing in your school.

SUPPORTING THE MENTAL HEALTH OF ALL PUPILS

 Universal

Good mental health is fundamental to wellbeing, healthy relationships and academic success, yet we know that one in five children will struggle at some point. We're passionate about educating all students about mental health, so they know how to cope when times get tough.

Whether it's our Wellbeing and Resilience Screener, designed to identify students at risk of difficulties, or our CPD Academy, accessible to your whole staff, we're giving you the resources you need to improve student mental health across your whole school.

Wellbeing & Resilience Screener

Mable’s Wellbeing and Resilience Screener is designed for the early identification of students who might need additional support with their mental health. Aimed at students from year six and above, simply send them a link and they’ll be taken through a series of questions designed to screen their strengths and difficulties in eight different areas of wellbeing.

There's no training required to administer the screener and no physical materials are needed. Once completed, the results are immediately available on an individual, class and school level, with no additional admin time needed from your staff. Pupils are flagged as green (suitable for universal support), amber (in need of targeted support) or red (in need of specialist support).

Mable Academy

The Mable Academy's CPD library empowers your staff to identify and support mental health and SEND in your school. Each video course is around an hour long and is broken into 5-8 minute modules, meaning staff can learn at their own pace.

All of our courses are certified with CPD points awarded to staff upon completion. They cover a broad range of topics, such as Counselling Skills for Teachers and the Link Between Behaviour and Communication. Once your school is registered, your whole staff have access to the Mable Academy. Our software tracks how many courses they've completed, giving you a comprehensive overview of which courses staff are accessing, and how much CPD each person has done.

'Mable Life Skills' Lesson Plans

Learning about wellbeing and resilience is important for all children and young people, even those with good mental health. As part of our ‘Mable Life Skills’ series, our team of psychologists, counsellors and education specialists have created a unit of lessons where students can learn what goes into having good wellbeing and resilience.

Perfect for PSHE, form time or assemblies, this block of eight lessons comes with teaching guides, slides and resources, all designed to get students thinking critically about their own mental health.

BECAUSE SOME STUDENTS NEED AN EXTRA HELPING HAND

 Targeted

Lots of students will need a little extra help at times, and it's our aim to support them before it gets to a critical level. Our targeted resources are designed for those flagged as amber on the Wellbeing and Resilience Screener. Most schools will have significant numbers of amber pupils who don’t meet their threshold for counselling but still need a bit of help. At Mable, we're passionate about helping your staff to give them the best support possible.

'Steps to Wellbeing' Self-Help Modules

Our weekly interactive video courses can be accessed completely independently by students, and can be completed at home or in a quiet place at school. Written and presented by our clinical team, they cover areas such as optimism, grit, problem-solving and assertiveness.

There are no admin demands, simply send the student a link and they’ll be taken through our engaging, self-help modules, designed to build their self-esteem and improve their wellbeing and resilience.

Weekly Sessions with a Specialist Counsellor

Joining a Mable Therapy session couldn't be simpler. Just log in to the video session on a laptop or tablet, and the counsellor will be there waiting.

The sessions are confidential, so once the student is logged in, you can leave them to access their session independently. We ask for a named contact who we can call if needed during the session. While we won’t share details of what’s discussed, our counsellors will keep in touch regularly to let you know how the sessions are going.

Interactive Therapy Platform

Mable sessions are not your typical online therapy experience, there’s not a Zoom or Teams link in sight. The Mable platform has been designed by our therapists, software designers and education experts, tasked with creating the perfect therapeutic environment for children and young people to thrive.

There are hundreds of games, resources and activities for the counsellors to use in their sessions, which help students understand ‘big’ ideas in a relatable way. And we use familiar tools from gaming and social media, so students immediately feel at ease and engaged.

We're experts in engaging children and young people

Children and young people love our custom-built therapy platform as it reduces anxiety and gives them access to a world of digital resources.

Reviews from our users

Outstanding support, care, advice and knowledge. The rapport built with each and every child with our Mable Therapist has been incredible to watch and learn from. Mable really is a unique and caring service which I would recommend to any educational setting.

Lydia Martin
SEND Coordinator

I can’t recommend Mable enough. We cannot believe the difference the sessions have made to our child. She is in a much better place after only five sessions. We noticed a difference after the very first session. She now feels ready to go back to school and seems to be looking at life differently. Thank you!

Ciara has truly saved my life and anyone that gets to work with her is so extremely lucky. She let me choose what i need to talk about in each session and has helped me to further understand how i’m feeling and helps me to make sense of it. She has taught me so much and i will miss her millions.

Thank you Ciara you’re a lifesaver.

Young Person

We know that children only thrive and flourish when their mental health needs are being met and when they feel happy in school. That's why we're huge advocates of Mable and they're an important part of the education that we provide for children.

COMMITTED AND TRUSTWORTHY

We understand how to safeguard children

We’re dedicated to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every child and young person we work with. Our Safeguarding Manager meets regularly with schools' Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) to ensure that all safeguarding measures are in place and up-to-date. Mable schools also know that our safeguarding team is just a phone call away for advice or support when they need it.

Safeguarding is not just about policies and box-ticking to us. It's about doing all we can to keep your students safe and well,  so they can thrive emotionally and academically.

Why mable is different

We understand the challenges young people are going through, and we’re passionate about giving them the resilience and self-esteem to face whatever life throws at them. We have a dedicated team of counsellors, who use kindness, compassion and empathy to build a trusting relationship with your students. From there, they help them explore the root of their difficulties, recognise patterns in their behaviour and find ways to overcome their challenges.

Our gamified video platform is the result of years of research into how to engage and motivate children so they get the most out of their therapy. Designed by therapists, it features games, activities and resources which bring therapeutic concepts to life and explain ‘big ideas’ in a simple way. The familiarity of the online platform is also proven to reduce anxiety and accelerate progress.

Our sessions are designed to help children and young people get through their short-term difficulties, while also strengthening their long-term resilience and self-esteem. We don’t have a magic wand and we can’t offer a quick fix, but we can help your students to develop the psychological foundations for a healthier, happier future.

Our approach isn't about trying to replicate 'in-person' sessions. We're passionate about utilising technology to create a new and improved therapy approach that aligns with the needs and interests of young people. Mable users not only benefit from our gamified technology, designed to make sessions motivating and engaging, they also get a more accessible counselling experience. Research shows the majority of young people prefer working online, as it's less intimidating than a clinical setting. This makes them less anxious and allows them to open up more quickly.

Today's young people face unique challenges, from social media pressures to global uncertainties, requiring mental health professionals to constantly adapt to meet their needs. Our research-driven approach allows us to keep up with these changes. Mable's software developers are always creating new, innovative, digital tools that resonate with tech-savvy young clients, making therapy more engaging and effective.

Technology isn't at the heart of what we do, children and young people are. But we are experts in using technology to give them the best possible therapeutic experience, enabling them to be the best person they can be.

Mable has a network of fully qualified, DBS-checked, experienced counsellors with a range of specialisms and expertise. We don't just select counsellors based on their qualifications, we interview each one, and only recruit those that have that 'special spark' needed to connect with children and young people.

Our network of counsellors is UK-wide, giving you lots of choice and a better chance at finding the right match. Research shows that the most important factor in whether counselling will work is if the client feels a strong bond with their counsellor. Our counselling directory allows you and the student to browse our team and choose the person that feels like a good match. If the student meets them and they don't feel a connection, it's really easy to switch and try someone else instead.

Our counsellors adapt each session to the individual needs of the young person. They use a range of age-appropriate activities and games, designed to reduce anxiety and and accelerate the therapeutic work. Although sessions are confidential, the counsellors stay in regular contact with the school. They'll adhere to your safeguarding procedures, letting you know if they have any concerns, and you'll also receive an End of Therapy report.

How do I refer a student for counselling?

It's really simple, you login to your Mable account and press 'add patient'. You'll be asked a few simple questions and you'll need to email a consent form to the student's parents/carers. Once the consent is completed, you can book them in.

What qualifications do the counsellors have?

All of our counsellors are fully qualified and registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) or Association of Children's Psychotherapists (ACP). They have up-to-date, enhanced DBS checks as well as regular safeguarding training. We have a robust recruitment policy and recruit counsellors based on their qualifications, experience and personality. All of our counsellors have significant experience of working with children.

Are you able to provide the appropriate policies?

We understand you're probably required to provide paperwork for any service you allow to work with your students. We have GDPR policies, safeguarding policies, privacy policies, whatever it is that your school needs - we have it!

What if a student is reluctant to try counselling?

It can be tempting to try to persuade students to access counselling if we can see that it would be beneficial. However, counselling will only help if they are willing and engaged. It can help to tell the student that it's only one session to start with and then they can then decide whether they’d like to continue. You may also want to show them one of these videos which explains more about how Mable Therapy works:

This video is suitable for primary age students:

If a student has their first session and does not want to continue it’s important to respect their decision. It’s essential that they has a positive experience or counselling so they feel empowered to access it in the future. By giving them the power to decide, they know they are able to access it once they feel ready.

How long are the sessions and when do they take place?

Each online counselling session lasts 45 minutes. The appointments usually take place at the same time each week unless agreed otherwise with the counsellor. We recommend that when you book the first session, you choose a day and time that you’ll be able to stick to regularly.

Some schools arrange for the sessions to take place at home if they feel the parents will be able to accommodate this. This is really simple to do, you just need to make sure the student has their log in details.
