Early Years Language & Communication Screener

The Mable Early Years Language & Communication Screener is a cutting-edge digital resource which identifies speech and language challenges in your early years setting. Set each pupil up with a device and our animated character takes them through a series of app-based adventures which screen all areas of their speech and language.

Our screener is designed to be child-friendly and can be completed independently by each pupil. There's no training required to administer the screener and no physical materials are needed. Once completed, accurate results are immediately available on an individual, class and school level, with minimal admin time needed from your staff. Pupils are flagged as green (suitable for universal support), amber (in need of targeted support) or red (in need of specialist support).

Mable Academy

The Mable Academy's CPD library empowers your staff to identify and support mental health and SEND in your school. Each video course is around an hour long and is broken into 5-8 minute modules, meaning staff can learn at their own pace.

All of our courses are certified with CPD points awarded to staff upon completion. They cover a broad range of topics, such as Counselling Skills for Teachers and the Link Between Behaviour and Communication. Once your school is registered, your whole staff have access to the Mable Academy. Our software tracks how many courses they've completed, giving you a comprehensive overview of which courses staff are accessing, and how much CPD each person has done.

Early Years Communication Strategy Training

As part of our 'Mable Life Skills' series, our Speech & Language therapists guide your staff through the eight key strategies they can implement to support speech, language and communication skills during everyday interactions. They'll cover important themes such as expanding and recasting language, the use of questions and how to ensure interactions are child-led.

Alongside the video modules, they'll receive resources and class-based activities designed to help integrate communication-promoting practices into the classroom.

 Targeted

For those flagged as amber on the Mable Early Years Language and Communication Screener, we've created intervention resources to be delivered directly by your staff. We understand that you may have significant numbers of pupils who don't qualify for specialist intervention, and we're passionate about empowering your staff to give them the best support possible.

Mable Intervention Groups

To support pupils flagged as amber, our Speech & Language therapists have created video modules, session plans and resources for small-group interventions. In these group sessions, pupils will receive support with areas such as their understanding of language, their use of language and their social communication skills. Each session will target several areas of communication, allowing for more effective use of school time and resources.

The amber interventions also train your staff in how to deliver short-term individual sessions focused on specific targets. With these focused, timely interventions, our goal is to help your staff prevent minor issues from becoming more significant.

Weekly therapy with a mable therapist

Joining the therapy session couldn't be simpler. Just log in to the video session on a laptop or tablet, and your pupil’s fully-qualified Speech & Language therapist will be ready to start. For younger children, we recommend having a staff member or parent join the session. This way, they can pick up helpful tips from the therapist on how to support the child’s communication skills in everyday situations. Older children can join with a member of staff or log in independently. With our simple platform, you can be sure that every session runs smoothly and supports the pupil’s progress in a fun, stress-free way.

Reports and homework after each session

Accessing weekly session reports and homework is simple and easy. With just a click, parents, staff and teachers can stay up-to-date on each child’s diagnosis, therapy plan and progress. These reports cover everything from assessments to ongoing therapeutic support.

Session reports also track the child’s progress over time, helping to adjust the therapy plan when needed. This ongoing monitoring ensures each child receives the right support for their needs. Between sessions, therapists set fun activities based on what was covered, helping children build on their progress in an engaging way.

We understand how to support schools

Mable Therapy makes life easier for schools by significantly reducing the admin workload for teaching staff, streamlining the entire therapy process. Our intuitive digital platform handles all aspects of scheduling, session management and progress tracking, so you don’t have to. Teachers and staff can easily access detailed weekly reports that highlight each child’s progress, therapy goals, and recommendations—all with just a few clicks. This eliminates the need for time-consuming paperwork and back-and-forth communication.

With Mable, there’s no chasing therapists for reports or updates. You'll find everything you need on your Mable dashboard, allowing you to stay informed. Our therapists work closely with schools, providing regular updates and recommendations that are instantly accessible. This ensures that everyone is on the same page and working towards the best outcomes for the child. By cutting down on admin tasks, Mable Therapy gives teachers more time to focus on what matters most: supporting students’ learning and development.

Mable Therapy’s approach leads to clear, measurable progress for pupils receiving Speech & Language therapy, by combining engaging activities with personalised goals. Our digital platform uses interactive tools, games, and exercises that actively involve children in their learning, helping them stay motivated and focused. This fun, anxiety-reducing environment encourages children to fully participate, leading to faster achievement of their Speech & Language goals.

Our therapists create individualised therapy plans for each child based on detailed assessments, targeting specific communication challenges. Progress is tracked closely, with regular adjustments made to ensure therapy is always aligned with the child’s needs. This results in significant improvements in key areas like speech sound development, social communication skills and use and understanding of language.

The consistency of weekly one-on-one sessions, combined with instant feedback, helps children build confidence in their abilities. With regular reports shared with parents and teachers, everyone stays informed about the child’s progress toward their therapy goals.

Mable ensures that parents always feel connected and informed throughout their child’s therapy journey. Our detailed session reports and homework tasks are shared with the parents, as well as the school, keeping everyone up-to-date on the child's progress. These reports outline the key areas covered in therapy, highlight improvements and offer practical strategies that can be reinforced at home.

By providing clear, accessible information, Mable helps parents feel more confident in supporting their child’s communication development. Homework tasks are carefully designed to be fun and engaging, allowing families to continue the progress made during sessions in everyday activities. This ongoing collaboration between schools, therapists and parents not only strengthens the child's therapy outcomes but also creates a supportive network around the child. Parents appreciate the insight into their child’s development and feel empowered to actively contribute to their success, creating a sense of partnership in achieving meaningful progress.

We understand the strain schools are under with their budgets, so we ensure our pricing is simple and transparent. Our range of subscription packages are designed to fit the unique needs of each school, ensuring there are no hidden costs or unexpected fees. For a whole-school approach to supporting speech, language and communication, there's our annual subscription packages that include universal and targeted support, alongside the specialist therapy sessions. For schools who only need the therapy sessions, they can buy therapy credits as and when they need them.

This clear budgeting approach means that every pound spent directly contributes to therapy sessions, helping children make meaningful progress in their communication skills.  This enables schools to confidently plan their budget while ensuring that students receive the support they need. With Mable, schools can invest in their students’ futures without worrying about financial surprises along the way.

Springwell Primary School
Over the years we have referred a number of our children to Mable and one of the things we love about it is that it's very tailored to the specific needs of our children.  The expertise and the breadth of experience within the Mable team has enabled us to target specific pupils who have specific concerns.
Jonny Davies

Mable has been an excellent source of therapy for the students in our provision. The admin support has been second to none, and are always there if needed. I would highly recommend Mable as an alternative to face-to-face therapy.

How do I know if a pupil needs speech and language therapy?

If you have concerns about a student's speech clarity, their ability to learn new words at the same rate as other children or their social interaction skills, then they may need support. Book the student in for an assessment, and once consent is signed, they'll be fully assessed by a Speech and Language Therapist. For more guidance, give us a call and one of our team will be happy to talk it through.

What is the referral process?

You’ll start by completing a brief referral form. This is so we can ensure the student is matched with the best therapist for their needs. You will then be able to book in the assessment for a time that best suits the student’s schedule. The assessment session is usually 45-50 minutes long and will assess the student across a variety of areas, based on what the concerns are. You’ll then receive a full report within seven days.

Does every pupil need an assessment?

Usually, we recommend an assessment as the therapist needs to get a baseline of the student's needs. The assessment can also be useful as it provides strategies to support the student in class. In some cases, we don’t need a full assessment, for example, if the student has one from within the last six months which the therapist feels contains enough information. There are also some instances where the only concern is a mild speech production difficulty, so a full assessment isn’t required.

Can the reports be used as EHCP evidence?

Yes, the Mable Speech and Language screener investigates all areas of speech and language development. Specialist subsets can be administered for children and young people with specific needs and the results of these can be reported for use in EHCP assessment.

How many sessions are needed?

Following an assessment, we will send you a draft provision map with an estimate of sessions required in order to meet initial targets. However, until we know more about your student’ difficulties;  their learning style and their speed of progression it is difficult to say how many sessions they will require in order to reach their full potential. Good communication between parents, school and other practitioners as well as regular assessment will allow your therapist to give you a good idea of prognosis.

What qualifications and experience do the therapists have?

All our therapists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). We only hire therapists of NHS Band 6 and above, so they have all had several years of experience before starting to work with Mable.

How can I track pupil progress?

Mable provides weekly data to not only demonstrate impact but to assist in measuring the direct impact of the intervention against student functioning in the classroom. Mable gathers student opinion through self-evaluation at the start and end of every speech and language intervention session and can support schools who want to develop case studies in order to illustrate how speech and language therapy support has an impact on engagement and behaviour.
